Hi, and welcome to my site.
My name is Michael Meador, I recently graduated from Concord University in Athens, WV with a BOA in Graphic Design/Advertising. On this site you can see my print stuff (magazine ads, newspaper ads, billboards, ect.), logo/branding stuff (logos, logo uses, ect.), photographed stuff (photographs I have taken for ads and other stuff), studio work (drawings, sculpture, ect.), and my personal resume. Fell free to e-mail me at mike@mmeador.com for a complete resume and portfolio.
A little more about me:
I was born in Huntington, WV to Bill and Sue Meador. My dad was in the US Army and my mom was mostly a stay at home mom for most of my life. Through out the early part of my life I was privileged to live in many different places. When I was only 3 my dad was stationed in Manheim, Germany where I lived for the next 2 years followed by another assignment in Heidelberg, Germany where we lived for another 3. After 5 years in Germany we moved to Kansas where we had a short stay of only a year before we moved to my current home of Beckley, WV. In Beckley I attended Woodrow Wilson High School and graduated in 2001.
From early on I was interested in design but really had no idea that I was. Starting in 1998 I had my first web site which I completely coded in notepad writing all the code by hand. No I must confess I was part of the mass occult of horrible design on geocities. My page had mountains of animated gifs and a new midi every week. After messing around with this site using all images created by other people I felt the need for my own images but really had no clue about anything but Microsoft Paint. Early on in my web design years I was introduced to a guy who had a very successful website and he showed me the wonders of Adobe Photoshop. I was amazed with its abilities and had to have it. So I got my hands on we will just say a “version”. After feeling I had mastered Photoshop (putting some text down and adding 13 different filters to it) me and a friend started a what we saw as a professional website all about the world of Pro-wrestling. Although this site was a hit because we piggybacked off of our other friends publicity it quickly became a dwindling past time. For years to come I would pull completely out of web design but still dabble in Photoshop. When it came time to choose a college I had no clue that Graphic Design was offered at any institution I was interested in. So I traveled to WVU where I entered into Computer Science hoping that coding would get me the same joy as design. But I quickly learned that sitting in front of a screen staring at 300+ lines of code was definitely not for me.. So I dabbled in a couple of different majors including Marketing because it was as close as I could get to actually designing. But again I was disappointed because it was not what I was looking for. So I decided to take a year off of college and just work. While working I found that a college just down the road from my house offered it... a 4 year degree in Graphic Design/Advertising. I was ecstatic. So I started at Concord in the Fall of 2004. I quickly learned that what I knew about Photoshop was barely even scratching the surface and my old skills of web design were not only out dated but almost useless. This is where I was introduced into other programs such as Illustrator and Indesign. This brings me up to no where I am nearing graduation and scouring the job market for a job in Advertising.
